This outdoor courtyard serves as a retreat at a large architectural firm’s corporate campus. The courtyard creates outdoor opportunities for engagement, collaboration, and inspiration for staff and clients.

Sustainable and proactive environmental design drove the project. Bold permeable paving colors and textures, along with geometric shapes, immediately draw users into the outdoors. A contemporary pavilion with retractable louvers for sun and weather protection, anchor the workspace zone, accompanied with sleek, communal workspace tables and elevated timeless stools, inviting colleagues and guests to comfortably experience this special outdoor space.

The courtyard design expands and transitions from the main terrace space into a meandering permeable casual path system where opportunities exist to mingle adjacent to the terrace or find a quiet space along the path to contemplate or take a call. Textural waves of ornamental grasses, flowering shrubs, groundcover carpet masses, and ornamental trees soften the architectural space. Elegant low-level lighting and a fire bowl are an invitation for evening gatherings.
